Operation School Bell® – Last Bell for the 2014-2015 School Year
Our last Operation School Bell clothing distribution for the 2014-2015 school year was held on March 18th. We provided new school clothes to 183 children from 81 low-income families, and also clothes from our Community Closet to young adults and other members of these families. In addition to clothes we also offered both new and gently used books to each child. Books are becoming a very popular part of our distribution day and we often see many children gathered around the bookshelves with our volunteers.
This distribution day was special because, in the afternoon, we had a guest directly from Ireland…… A LEPRECHAUN!!! OK so he didn’t come from Ireland, but we did find him wandering around Upland…
Our Leprechaun is Milt Lyles, the husband of one of our members, an author and a dedicated Operation School Bell volunteer. He did indeed brighten up the day.
We love all of our distribution days and this was no exception. The children and families we serve are wonderful and appreciate whatever we are able to provide. We wish we could do more and are committed to find funding to expand this very important program. Smiling children and families make all of the preparation well worth the effort. Take a look at the pictures below to see the happy faces…..
